From Skyrocketing Kaju Katli Sales To Edible Pet Rakhis, Blinkit CEO Reveals How India Is Celebrating Raksha Bandhan

It’s that time of the year again when sisters in India lovingly tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists with a promise of protection while brothers, pamper their sisters with gifts. So, how is India celebrating Raksha Bandhan this year? Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa took to X(formerly Twitter) to reveal interesting trends he noticed on the Blinkit app this year during Raksha Bandhan. It involves skyrocketing kaju katli sales, edible pet rakhis and more.

Kaju Katli, Popular On Blinkit This Raksha Bandhan

Taking to X, Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa shared a graph of the three trending mithai— kaju katli, laddu and gulab jamun— ordered by users on the app for Raksha Bandhan. He revealed in the caption, that it’s a close tie between laddu and gulab jamun. And you can observe that laddu sales overtook gulab jamun sales this year by a small margin.

But what shocked the entrepreneur the most was the kaju katli sales. Amongst the three sweets in the last three years, Indians have always preferred laddus for their Raksha Bandhan celebrations. It was the most ordered sweet on the app during the festival. However, this year, kaju katli emerged as a dark horse and overtook the other two sweets.

Perhaps, the ubiquitous appeal of the sweet was why it made its way to the households celebrating Raksha Bandhan this year. The mithai’s long shelf life could be another reason that can’t be discounted.

Edible Pet Rakhis Trending

While Raksha Bandhan is about celebrating the bond between a brother and a sister, this year, Indians are leaving no stone unturned to celebrate their bond with their four-legged siblings. This time around, Blinkit is celebrating Rakhi by selling pet rakhis, some of which are edible as well. Dhindsa revealed that these rakhis are selling out fast. And we’re not surprised!

What’s paw-some is that there are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian rakhi dog treats and cat rakhis on the app. And they are super cute! Keeping convenience in mind, many Indians have taken to online rakhi shopping. In another post, Dhindsa reveals that Blinkit, at its peak, sold 693 rakhis per minute. Promising to deliver rakhi gifts in just 10 minutes, the app has delivered gifts, sweets, chocolates and of course rakhis to the doorsteps of Indians across the breadth of the nation.
