Pratyush Chaubey, best known as Jethji and Chaubey Ji in the comedy circuit, explored the gullies of Gurgaon’s Sector 56 with us on our show, Tere Gully Mein. The comedian took us around his go-to spots and even spontaneously went on a gedi with us. While talking to us, Pratyush candidly told us how he found his calling in comedy.
How Pratyush Chaubey Found His Calling In Comedy
With Pratyush Chaubey, we had to explore his neighbourhood, Huda Market in Gurgaon’s Sector 56. At B Ten Cafe at the market, we stopped by for a plate of peri peri fries, cheese garlic toast, and cheesy toasts with sumptuous Italian toppings. As we waited for our hearty meal, Pratyush revealed how he got into comedy. The comedian revealed that he used to write funny scripts and even act in plays during his college days.
He had a “chaska” (passion) and “nasha” (addiction) for comedy. Later, he joined TCS as a software engineer and even travelled to Canada for work. But once he shifted to Canada, he realised he wasn’t enjoying corporate life. That’s when Pratyush reflected that the last time he enjoyed work was when he pursued comedy in college and extempore in school. What prompted him further to take the career switch was when comedian and satirist Appurv Gupta performed in his company.

Comedian Appurv Gupta’s Show Reignited His Passion
Watching his colleagues laughing heartily during Appurv’s 30-minute set further fuelled Pratyush Chaubey’s resolve to take the leap towards his calling— comedy. That’s when we had to poke the comedian to know why he left a hefty corporate package for comedy. Getting philosophical, Pratyush doled out some advice. He said that money doesn’t change anything.
Even those with a lot of money, in comedy too, are anxious. The high that a comedian gets on watching the audience laugh during his set is like a high, almost like drugs, was Pratyush’s reason. Pratyush shared he didn’t have “bhook” (hunger) for money and still doesn’t.
