From Waterloo International Terminal To Pepsi Max Station, These 10 Buildings In The UK Could Be Given Heritage Status

Twentieth Century Society

As part of C20’s Coming of Age campaign, the Twentieth Century Society, which conserves architectural history, is requesting that ten United Kingdom (UK) buildings from the 1990s be given heritage status. Due to their 30th birthdays, a few buildings in the UK that date back to 1994 are eligible for the mentioned register. Because it features significant examples of British architecture that merit listing, society feels that architecture from the 1990s deserves greater recognition and heritage status.

The Initiative By The Twentieth Century Society For Heritage Sites In UK

A building’s heritage status is essential for conversation groups because it guarantees that it is included on England’s National Heritage List, offering legal protection against demolition and requiring special planning clearance for any alterations. According to the C20’s Coming of Age campaign group, buildings are rarely classified until they are in danger of being demolished. However, director Catherine Croft thinks that it is possible to make an objective decision sooner rather than waiting for bulldozers to come and save important UK buildings, as reported by Time Out.

Offering a window into the past, the Twentieth Century Society suggests a novel method for listing structures. Buildings, shipwrecks, gardens, and historic battlefields can all be protected under the list, which has listing classifications ranging from Grade II to Grade I.
