Situated at 722 meters above sea level, Fužine is a quaint village in Croatia. This hidden gem is surrounded by mountains and is just an hour’s drive from Zagreb.
The picturesque hamlet also has three large artificial accumulation lakes named Bajer, Potkoš, and Lepenica, and you can enjoy that much-needed time surrounded by nature at these places.

Fužine is part of the Gorski Kotar region of Croatia. This mountainous region lies between Karlovac and Rijeka and has a forest cover of over 60%! The region is often called ‘Croatian Switzerland’ and the ‘green lungs of Croatia’. The climate in this region is usually marked by harsh, snowy winters. Whereas in summer, the daily temperatures rarely exceed 30°Celsius, making it a perfect summer escape!

The best part about Fužine is that you can enjoy both mountain and beach vacation here! Rijeka, a seaside town, is just 20 minutes away from this village. So, one can drive to this place, enjoy time by the sea and come back to the cool weather and serenity of the mountains in Fužine. What can be better than this?!

Owing to Croatia’s coastal beauty, not many people know about Fužine. Many tourists tend to visit only the Adriatic coast while they are visiting Croatia. In fact, as per a Hindustan Times report, in 2023, around 50,000 tourists visited the Gorski Kotar area. They were mostly tourists from Germany, Italy, France, and The Netherlands. This is just a fraction of the 20 million people who visit Croatia throughout the year.

Besides being less crowded than other famous tourist destinations in Croatia, Fužine also has temperatures that are up to 10°Celsius lower than on the coast. Due to this, this hidden gem has the potential to be one of the most loved tourist destinations in Croatia, especially in the summer seasons.
