Now that it’s opened, traffic congestion on the Western Express Highways will ease. The bridge was inaugurated at 11:55 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. It was inaugurated by the MP of North Mumbai, Piyush Goyal as a Ganesh Chaturthi gift to all of Mumbai.

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, this particular bridge has been shut for more than two years. This shut resulted in bottleneck traffic on the Goregaon-Dahisar corridor. The Akurli Subway was slated to be widened, which is why it was shut.
A spokesperson from MP Piyush Goyal’s team cited in a News18 article said that the reopening of the bridge was a Ganesh Chaturthi gift for the entire Mumbai. Mastic asphalt was laid on the road and given that Mumbai is still witnessing monsoon showers, the asphalt has not had sufficient time to heal.
If reports are to go by, it is therefore likely that the road may develop potholes. Be that as it may, a number of motorists are happy that the road is now finally open.

Now that the road is open, traffic on the Western Express Highway will be significantly reduced. Motorists travelling to or from Dahisar, Borivali and Kandivali will get a relatively traffic-free commute.
The Subway was built in the 1960s to ease traffic. Hence, its widening had been initiated. It is hoped the commuters will have a better travel experience now.
