Ganpati Visarjan Traffic Updates: Mumbai, Hyderabad, & Pune Announce Road Closures And Diversions

As the Ganesh festival reaches its crescendo with the Ganpati Visarjan, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune are gearing up for grand processions and celebrations. To ensure the safety and convenience of devotees and commuters, traffic authorities in these cities have put in place a series of traffic restrictions, diversions, and road closures. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the traffic updates in these cities to help you navigate the Ganpati Visarjan chaos seamlessly.

Mumbai Traffic Updates:

As per the Live Mint reports, to ensure a seamless Ganesh festival and Anant Chaturdashi celebrations, the Mumbai Traffic Police have laid out specific traffic restrictions and plans:

  1. One-Way Traffic on Dr Annie Besant Marg: To ensure a smooth Ganpati Visarjan procession, southbound traffic on Dr Annie Besant Marg in Worli will be restricted.
  2. Traffic Rerouted on NM Joshi Marg: The section of traffic going from Shingte Master Chowk to Bharatmata Junction on NM Joshi Marg will be blocked during the festivities.
  3. Mahapalika Marg Closure: Vehicular traffic on Mahapalika Marg will be suspended, and an alternative route will be established through CSMT Junction, D.N Road, and L.T Marg.
  4. No Parking Zones in Kalbadevi: Eight routes in the Kalbadevi vicinity will be marked as ‘No Parking’ zones, including J.S.S Road and Sant Sena Marg.
  5. Colaba’s No Parking Zones: Nathalal Parekh Marg, Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, and Rambhau Salgaonkar Marg in South Mumbai will be designated as ‘No Parking’ zones, except for emergency vehicles.
  6. Traffic Restrictions in DB Marg Division: Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Marg (from Prarthana Samaj Junction to Vinoli Junction), and Walkeshwar Road will be completely closed to vehicular traffic.
  7. Traffic Flow Changes in Tardeo: Several roads in Tardeo will transition from ‘two-way’ to ‘one-way’ traffic, including Pandita Ramabai Marg and M.S. Ali Road.
  8. Byculla’s Traffic Congestion: The Byculla area, known for prominent Ganpati pandals like Lalbaugh and Kalachowki, is expected to experience substantial traffic congestion and a high volume of pedestrians.
  9. Bhoiwada Traffic Changes: In the Bhoiwada area, streets like Mumbai Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya Marg (Naigaon Cross Road) and King E.D Road will become ‘one-way’ streets.

Hyderabad Traffic Updates:

As per the reports from Newstap, Hyderabad is gearing up for the Ganesh Shobha Yatra festival with traffic restrictions:

  1. Procession Routes: The main Ganesh procession enters Hyderabad through Balapur and passes through several areas, including Charminar, Abids, Basheerbagh, and NTR Marg (Necklace Road). Idols from different zones join the main procession at specific points.
  2. Traffic Restrictions: Only vehicles involved in the Ganesh procession are allowed on the main route from 6 pm on September 28, 2023, to 10 am on September 20, 2023. There may be traffic restrictions on PVNR Marg and Tank Bund during this period.
  3. Traffic Diversion Points: Vehicles not part of the procession will be diverted at various points along the route. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes to avoid diversions.
  4. Exit Routes for Empty Trucks/Lorries: Empty trucks and lorries after immersion must follow specific exit routes to leave the procession area.
  5. Restrictions on Inter-State/District Lorries: Inter-state and inter-district lorries are prohibited from entering Hyderabad city from 8 pm on September 28 to 8 am on September 29, 2023.
  6. Private Buses: Private buses are not allowed to enter the city from 6 pm on September 28 to 10 pm on September 29, 2023.
  7. Alternative Routes for Airport and Railway Station: Passengers travelling to and from the airport and railway stations are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic related to the procession.

Pune Traffic Updates:

As per the Free Press Journal reports, in Pune, preparations are underway for a secure and smooth Lord Ganesha immersion:

Security Measures by Pune Police:

The Pune Police have amplified security measures to maintain order during the immersion procession. Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Division, Vijay Kumar Magar, has announced 17 road closures, diversions, and No Parking zones to manage the expected crowd during the immersion procession.
