Bengaluru’s transformation is now a popular issue following RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka’s recent X post. What was once called the ‘Garden City’ with quiet parks, low traffic, and an easygoing way of life is now transformed into a congested metropolis. Goenka posted an old photograph of Infosys co-founders Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani, citing how Bengaluru has transformed from a quiet sanctuary to a disorganised urban city.
Harsh Goenka’s Viral Post On Bengaluru’s Evolution
In his post, Goenka nostalgically recalled a bygone era in Bengaluru that provided morning walks in Cubbon Park, joy rides in Premier Padminis, and relaxed afternoons in peaceful bookshops. Nevertheless, he opined that, at present, the city is directly associated with bad traffic, crowds, and sudden urbanisation that does not spare much room for the serenity and beauty of the past.

Social Media Comments On Bengaluru’s Transformation
Goenka’s remarks raised a social media debate, as people were sharply divided on the transformation of Bengaluru. A section of them concurred with the view that the infrastructure in the city had declined, blaming traffic jams, disappearing green parks, and uncontrolled development.
They contended that the former ‘Garden City’ turned into an unorganised concrete city, where advancement was achieved by sacrificing the quality of life.
A user criticised, placing blame on politicians and real estate interests for not keeping the city as charming as it once was. Another observed that the streets and infrastructure in the older sections of the city still remain better than in the so-called ‘developed’ sections.
Yet others came to Bengaluru’s defense, arguing that growth involves some compromises. A few users suggested that the expansion of the city, facilitated by the IT boom, has spawned numerous job opportunities.
They reasoned that though traffic and urbanisation are issues, they are part of the cost of being a city that has made itself India’s IT capital. The debate over the development of Bengaluru is a subset of a broader debate over urbanisation. Can the city be modernised without losing its soul?

While Bengaluru develops, growth and sustainability must march in tandem. Nostalgia aside, the city’s future will depend on smart planning and the development of infrastructure.
