Aiming to begin the year with all things right and positive, the best way is to surround ourselves with inspiring people and add value in our lives. That is exactly how Curly Tales began 2023. Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani hosted the first Sunday Brunch of the year with Guruji Gaur Gopal Das. Anyone who knows about him also knows that he is a learned personality with wisdom that could move mountains. We can count on him for an answer to any problem.

Many such questions that all of us face in life were answered by him during this Sunday Brunch over great food.

Gaur Gopal Das Starts His Day With Weight Training

It would be fair to say that he has been breaking stereotypes about monks for a long time now. When asked about his routine, he mentioned beginning his day with a workout.

While the obvious guess would be to consider him a yoga practitioner, he regularly does weight training. He also shared being diagnosed with osteopenia, which eventually led him to incorporate regular weight training into his life. While his focus on physical activity rose out of necessity, he now finds it indulging.

His Sunday Brunches As A Kid And Now

The conversation about working out quickly took some turns and naturally turned to food.

Guruji shared that he follows a Sattvic diet. Growing up in a Jain household, he was accustomed to not consuming onions or garlic. However, he was a foodie back then and usually insisted on having his favourite meals prepared. He also shared about his Sunday brunches back then. Coming from a simple home, most of his Sundays were filled with dosas, idlis, sambhar and more from South Indian cuisine.

Now, his food palette looks much different, with modest foods without onions, garlic, or many spices.

Upon seeing the table spread for the Sunday Brunch, he immediately referred to it as a cheat day. Finding it much too lavish for his lifestyle, he accepted it as a break from his days in the ashram.

This conversation over Sunday Brunch was insightful and humble. You must watch it right now!
