As lockdown restrictions are easing across countries, people are taking up quirky measures to maintain social distancing. In Kerala, folks stepping out have been told to carry open umbrellas to ensure that they keep a minimum distance of one metre from others. The Singapore authorities have introduced a robot dog named SPOT to remind passersby to maintain safe distances. A restaurant in Thailand is using panda toys to accompany lone diners. A priest in Detroit used a water pistol to sprinkle holy waters. And here’s the story of a German eatery that has reopened after the lockdown in an amazing, out-of-the-box style. Read on.

What Happened?

Cafe & Konditorei Rothe is a coffee shop and confectionary in Schwerin, Germany. It had recently opened up by offering a pool-noodle hat to every customer. These headgears were made with swimming pool noodle floats. The customers had to wear them to maintain a 1.5-metre distance from each other. The cafe has about 36 tables indoors. Another 20 are placed outside, in the open air. The opening day of the cafe saw a pleasant weather and the people were enjoying each other’s company wearing the straw hats. The guys of the cafe had also shared a picture of the event on Facebook, that has already garnered 1.9K likes and 3.1K shares.

What Else?

Cafe Rothe remained open even during the shutdown, but did not get any customer. Now, it has reduced its seating capacity by less than half of what it was before. The Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel had recently announced that the country was out of phase one of the pandemic. Thus, the nation has now lifted many lockdown restrictions. Germany had recorded a total of about 177,289 cases with nearly 8,123 deaths.
