Ola, one of the major cab-aggregating services in India, received a directive from the government. The Central Consumer Protection Authority or the CCPA has asked the cab aggregating service to implement a number of consumer-friendly changes. One of the changes includes providing a complete refund for rides as well as providing receipts for the ride. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular mandate.
Getting Refunds On Ola Cabs May Become Easier Than Ever
According to an article which was recently published by The New Indian Express or the TNIE, the directive was passed on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The consumer watchdog stated that even though Ola has a no-questions-asked refund policy, clients only ever received a coupon code for a discount on future rides upon raising grievances.
The cab-aggregating company did not offer a clear-cut choice to the client between a bank account refund or a coupon. This the consumer watchdog found was violating consumer rights. It said that the company could not use its refund policy to incentivise further use of the service.
As per the TNIE article, after the mandate, the cab-aggregating service incorporated similar consumer-friendly changes. In addition to making refunds more flexible and available, Ola may now also provide receipts for auto rides.
Other Changes That The Cab-Aggregating Services Will Incorporate
What is more, Ola will also display the contact details of nodal and grievance officers on its website. It will also give details about cancellation policies, fare break-up, and fees at the time of booking.
They will also allow the drivers to see the pick-up and drop locations of the passengers. The CCPA mentioned that there were as many as 2,061 complaints against Ola between January and October 2024. The major complaints were about overcharging, driver issues and delays in refunds.
