Cambodia’s Newly-Inaugrated Airport In Phnom Penh

Inaugurated on September 9, the new airport in Phnom Penh was built at a cost of a whopping $2 billion. The terminal design combines cultural heritage, natural beauty, and eco-conscious design, making it one of the most breathtaking and sustainable airports in the region.
According to NDTV, the new airport is equipped to handle Cambodia’s booming tourism and is located in Kandal Province, around 20 kilometres from the city centre. Covering 2,600 hectares, Techo International Airport is not only Cambodia’s newest gateway but also one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects. It has a 4,000-metre runway that can accommodate long-haul aircraft, and two more runways are planned for future phases.
Currently, the airport has an annual capacity to manage around 13 million passengers. With their expansion plans, the airport authorities assure that they will be able to handle up to 30 million passengers by 2030.

Techo International Airport: One Of The Greenest In The World
The Techo International Airport in Cambodia is setting new standards for sustainability in the aviation industry. Filled with natural light, landscaped zones, and vertical gardens, the airport terminal features tall trees and soft planting that brighten the interiors. It is also powered almost entirely by energy from an onsite solar farm. Besides that, the airport also has rainwater harvesting facilities, and a natural airflow design that reduces its reliance on air conditioning.
