If you love travelling and are planning to visit the Republic of Armenia next, then there’s good news for you all. The Republic of Armenia has announced a temporary visa exemption policy for 113 countries, including India. Read on to know more about this policy.

All About The Temporary Visa Exemption Policy

According to the travel trade journal, the Republic of Armenia has announced a visa exemption policy on a temporary basis. This policy is aimed at boosting tourism and strengthening international connectivity, allowing foreign nationals to travel visa-free.

The measure came into effect on January 1, 2026, and will remain valid until July 1, 2026. Under this new policy, travellers holding a valid residence permit issued by the US, European Union member states, Schengen Area countries, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman will be permitted to enter Armenia without any visa. The temporary exception applies to nationals of 113 countries like India, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and several African, Asian and Latin American nations.

What Are The Eligibility Criteria Of This Policy?

  • Eligible travellers can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within one year.
  • The traveller’s residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
  • The residence permit must be available either
    • As a physical card, or
    • As a sticker affixed to the passport.
  • Border authorities will recognise permits that display key details in Latin script and follow the Gregorian calendar format.
  • The permit must clearly mention:
    • Traveller’s full name
    • Nationality
    • Date of birth
    • Validity period

This initiative is specially designed to encourage short trips, family trips and business trips and to promote Armenia as a tourist spot.

As per the Travel Trade Journal, Lusine Geovorgyan, chairman of the tourism committee of Armenia, stated that this decision is a clear initiative to invite travellers from around the world. This will help travellers to witness Armenia’s culture, landscape and hospitality, leading it to be one of the most open and welcoming destinations in 2026.
