Goa-Bound IndiGo Flight With 222 Passengers Makes Emergency Landing In Bengaluru Due To Low Fuel

On October 8, an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Goa, with 222 passengers onboard, had no choice but to make an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) due to low fuel. Bad weather in Goa and low fuel were crucial reasons for the diversion. Read on to learn more about this untoward incident.

IndiGo Flight Diverts To Bengaluru Due To Low Fuel

According to a report by Moneycontrol, IndiGo flight 6E 6168, which flew from Bengaluru to Goa at 5:50 PM, returned to Bengaluru around 7:45 PM. Sources at KIA told the news agency that the flight was diverted to Bengaluru airport due to thunderstorms, heavy rains, and lightning in Goa. Low fuel was another crucial reason for the diversion. IndiGo flight 6E 6168 was supposed to land at Dabolim airport in Goa at about 6:45 PM.

However, after the emergency landing and the departure thereafter from Bengaluru airport, the flight finally landed at Dabolim airport at 11 PM, severely inconveniencing passengers. A senior official at Goa International Airport threw more light on this incident to Moneycontrol. The official said that adverse weather conditions in Goa like lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rains led to the diversion. Airport authorities redirected flights to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Bad Weather In Goa Leading To Delays & Diversions

On October 8, five commercial flights to Goa had to be diverted. Three flights were rerouted to Bengaluru while two were sent to Hyderabad. By 12:10 AM, weather conditions improved and normal flight operations resumed. It’s not just domestic flights that are bearing the brunt of Goa’s tumultuous monsoons, even international flights are facing their own share of diversions and delays. Qatar Airways for example announced shifting its Goa operations from, Dabolim to the new North Goa airport from June 2024 onwards.
