Goa Sees Massive Decline In Foreign Arrivals Following CAA Protests

It was not too long ago that the Indian government had issued an advisory for people travelling to Turkey due to the unrest there. But, it seems the tables have turned now as other countries are issuing advisories to people visiting India. Ever since the (Citizenship Amendment Act) CAA came into being, protests have become a common feature across the subcontinent. And now they are affecting the tourism industry. Goa seems to be seeing the repercussions of the protests firsthand as foreigners are avoiding visiting Goa.

Goa Faces Drop In Foreign Tourists Following CAA Protests

The months of November and December are peak tourist time for the state of Goa. Owing to its beaches and pleasant climate during the winter season, people flock it from across the world. But ever since the implementation of CAA, the protests have spread across the country like wildfire. Which in turn is affecting the tourist arrivals in Goa. Due to the protests, foreign nationals are apprehensive about visiting the country amid tensions and possible riots.

The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has stated that there will be a significant drop in tourism in the coming weeks. Countries like Russia, Israel and the UK have all issued advisories to their citizens regarding the unrest in India. Unlike places like Delhi, Bangalore and Mangalore, where protests have turned violent, things have been relatively peaceful and calm in Goa. Further reports say that Russian nationals top the list of international tourists in Goa. For the past two years, Goa has seen a decline in Russian tourists.

Besides Goa, Assam has also seen a steady decline in tourism following CAA. Since it is the only state where the NRC has been implemented the situation has been pretty grim from the outset and at this point they have lost out on tourism revenue worth ₹400 crores. While in the north, Agra has seen a drop in tourism as well.
