As per a report by the Navhind Times, the state government stated to the High Court of Bombay that the 3-day Goa Seafood Festival scheduled to be held on February 9 at Miramar Beach is now deferred to another suitable date. However, the future date hasn’t been decided yet. Some residents of Panaji approached the High Court to challenge the state government’s decision to host the Seafood Festival on Miramar Beach. In their defence, it would lead to the destruction of ecology.

The petition drew attention to a state government policy that bans food festivals on all beaches. The High Court. during an earlier hearing, asked the state government if there was any thought process gone into hosting the Goa Seafood Festival. It stated this as in their opinion, half of Panaji is “virtually like a war zone” which is “dug up”.

Moreover, the High Court remarked that the state government submitted documents on the Seafood Festival in instalments similar to the Sunburn Festival. It has become a rue for the Goa government to grant permission two days in advance hence denying judicial review and playing with its citizens.

According to a report by TOI, senior advocate Subodh Kantak stated to the judges that the blanket ban on food festivals on Goa’s beaches continues. However, this one festival would be allowed on the beach. Goa hopes to ring in tourists for the Goa Carnival to the Goa Seafood Festival. However, the HC stated that it would continue the hearing at a later date.
