So, we come bearing beyond good news for Kolkatans that Air India Express has started direct flights from Kolkata to the Andaman Islands.

Air India Express Launches Direct Flights On Kolkata-Andaman Route

Travelling to a destination like the Andaman Islands is itself thrilling. But it can be quite tiresome and even an expensive affair when one needs to board multiple flights for the same. Waiting for hours at the airport, and catching a connecting flight can end up eating into one’s already tight schedule.

Air India Express has heard the demands of travellers from Kolkata. The carrier has now launched daily flights between Kolkata and Port Blair. The inaugural flight took off from NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata at 5:40 AM on Sunday, December 1.

The return flight departed from Port Blair at 12:20 PM on the same day. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a statement congratulating Air India Express on this milestone even extending best wishes for the new route. AAI as the key enabler of aviation infrastructure ensured world-class facilities, seamless operation and efficiency at airports on this new route.

Inaugural Flight Met With Celebrations At Kolkata Airport

Furthermore, the airport body in its statement called this initiative a significant one in enhancing connectivity and promoting regional growth in the aviation sector. It expressed its pride that Air India Express has started flights on a new Kolkata-Port Blair route. As per a report by The Indian Express, Sumit Mehra, a private tour operator called the Andaman Islands a favourite spot among tourists from the east of India.

Mehta hopes that the increased connectivity will boost tourism in the Union Territory and in turn, propel economic activity. Daily flights The inaugural flight carrying 175 passengers today was met with much excitement. Check-in counters at Kolkata Airport were decorated to welcome fliers. Sweets were distributed and there was a ceremonial presentation of the boarding passes.

Kolkatans, Air India Express will have twice-daily between ‘City of Joy’ and the scenic paradise.
