Good news for South Delhiites! The south Delhi skywalk, which was intended to link the central plaza with the concourse of the Delhi Metro station five years ago, is almost finished. Once it is inaugurated, people won’t have to descend from the elevated station and cross the congested Astha Kunj Road to get to the heart of the Nehru Place neighbourhood.

The skywalk and its entire area would also be refurbished by the end of March 2024, according to a declaration made on Tuesday by the Delhi Development Authority. They are working hard to complete the unfinished jobs.

The skywalk’s construction is almost complete, and work is being done to connect it to the metro station. Its granite floor and steel handrails have already been installed. For aesthetic purposes, a tensile fabric sky cover will be put in place.

The barriers around the skywalk and on the highways were taken down in advance of the G20 conference. On the central verge, trees and saplings were planted, and the road was cleaned and carpeted. Naturally, once the former South Delhi Municipal Corporation indicated it had no objections to the DDA renovation project, the complete upgrade was started in December 2019. The repair includes updating the staircases, enhancing the drainage and sewer systems, adding tiles to the public plaza, and renovating the building facades. Ten new restroom buildings will be built as part of the DDA’s proposal for the complex.

They have included an escalator and a lift in the plans for the south Delhi skywalk according to the official. The civil work of installing the tiles has been finished in relation to the remaining project. New sewer pipes have also been installed by the Delhi Jal Board. Additionally, it built the rainwater catchment pits and repaired the stormwater drains. During the most recent rains, no significant waterlogging of the market was recorded.

Multi-level automobile parking is already underway and should be finished by March 31 of the following year in order to organise parking in the region and discourage unlawful parking. (As per The Times Of India)
