If you’re an infrastructure enthusiast, you know that Mumbai is undergoing a major facelift. The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road or the GMLR is one such major project that promises to reduce travel time and traffic congestion. The project will soon begin construction and it will be the fourth east-west corridor in Mumbai. From current status to cost of making, here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this upcoming link road.
Goregaon-Mulund Link Road: All You Need To Know About It
According to an article which was recently published by mid-day, this infrastructure project stretches across 12.2 kilometres. It will connect Mulund and Goregaon and reduce traffic on the route. In addition to this, it will also reduce the time taken to travel between the two regions.
The link road’s initial part will consist of twin tunnels which will begin at Film City in Goregaon and end at Khindipada in Mulund. The twin tunnels will span 4.7 kilometres and their depth will vary from 20 to 160 metres.
As per the article, the tunnels are slated to be finished by October 2028. The total estimated cost of the project is ₹6,322 crore. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC has suggested that the tunnels should be constructed beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park or SGNP.
Other Important Details You Should Know About The Project
After roadways like the Ghodbunder Road, JVLR or Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, the GMLR is the fourth east-west corridor in Mumbai. It promises to reduce traffic congestion and travel time.
If reports are to go by, PM Modi will most likely do the Bhumi Pujan of the project. He will visit Mumbai for the inauguration of the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project or MCRP. It will take place on February 19.
