This picturesque Japanese village now provides visitors with the chance to learn about its history and heritage. In order to experience this World Heritage Site in a unique way that has not been done in more than 20 years, Airbnb is offering travellers the chance to spend the night in one of its historic gassho homes this summer. The Nakashima family, who have lived in the area for five generations, are listing their century-old thatched-roof home on the platform with a lot of help from Nanto City. Visitors to this Airbnb will have the opportunity to experience Suganuma village in an incredibly genuine way. This special Airbnb stay gives visitors the chance to discover the village. 

The Gassho-zukuri farmhouses in the village, including the home of the Nakashimas family, are distinctive to the area because of their pitched, thatched roof constructions. Suganuma is an exquisite illustration of how to coexist with nature and presents a visual and spiritual feast. In recognition of the priceless value of the experience, the Nakashima family is pleased to extend a two-night invitation to a pair of visitors to experience their tranquil valley between July 17 and July 19, 2023.

The two special guests who will win this stay will be treated to traditional welcome tea and regional cuisine. Here, you will be able to discover the long-standing customs of the area. You will also be able to experience a magical nighttime light show and a folk music performance. The locals will showcase their song and dance traditions and illuminate their traditional homes.

You will also be able to take part in a practical workshop where you will be able to learn more about the construction methods used to make gassho homes. On a leisurely guided bike ride, you can also discover the sanctity of the village’s lush surroundings. Guests will also be given a “Disconnect to Connect ” kit, which includes a washi paper stationery set, an instant camera, and a local aromatherapy kit. Beginning on Friday, June 30 at 9:00 AM JST, guests can request to book this stay.
