Gujarat: Cyclone Biparjoy Expected To Make Severe Landfall, Here Are 13 Ways To Stay Safe

On June 15, Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make severe landfall in India and Pakistan. Between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan, a 325-kilometer stretch of coast was expected to be pummeled by strong winds, storm surges, and torrential rain. The severe cyclone might make landfall today on the Gujarat coast between 4pm and 8pm, so here are some ways for you to stay safe if the cyclone approaches your location. 

Cyclone Biparjoy Expected To Make Severe Landfall

The severe storm is located 201 km west of Devbhumi Dwarka and 170 km from Jakhau Port, according to the India Meteorological Department. 

Hours before storm Biparjoy is scheduled to make landfall, howling gales and crashing seas are battering the coastlines of Pakistan and India. Winds were gusting as high as 180 kph in the morning; by the time it reaches land, winds are expected to reach 115-125 kph with gusts as high as 140 kph. (As per The Times Of India)

Check Out These Do’s And Don’ts

  1. Keep yourself updated with the cyclone Biparjoy alerts and keep all the essentials for safety handy. 
  2. Make sure you check only official information.
  3. Use a stairwell, corridor, and bathroom for hiding, as they are the strongest parts of your house. 
  4. Provide strong support for the outside doors. 
  5. Avoid low-lying areas and beaches.
  6. Store extra food (that does not need cooking) and water in covered containers. 
  7. Make special provisions for kids or adults who follow a different diet.
  8. Use packing tape to retain shattered glass.
  9. Turn off gas and electricity, and unplug appliances.
  10. Put up storm shutters.
  11. Keep non-perishable food ready.
  12. Fuel up your care in case you might need it for an emergency evacuation.
  13. If you are stuck in your car during the cyclone, move to a place away from trees, water, and power lines. Stay in the car.
