Gulab Jamun Infused Old Monk? Try This Traditional Dessert With A Boozy Twist; Recipe

India is famous for its mouthwatering cuisines and desserts. Indian sweets are heavenly, particularly when they melt in our mouths. From Rasgulla to Jalebi to Ghewar, Indian desserts have a huge variety. One of such desserts loved by everyone is Gulab Jamun. The brown, rounded sweet dunked in sugar syrup is something you can be obsessed with. With a modern twist on tradition, here is a fusion recipe for Gulab Jamun infused with Old Monk Rum. Gulab Jamun: A Delicious Indian Dessert

Well, the literal translation of Gulab Jamun is Rose Berries, as gulab translates to rose while jamun translates to a deep purple-coloured berry. Traditionally, Gulab Jamun is made from milk solids, khoya (milk is reduced to the consistency of soft dough). Gulab Jamun is literally the embodiment of sweetness and joy. Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh is very well known for Gulab Jamun.

How To Make Old Monk Rum Infused Gulab Jamun

Ingredients

For Syrup:

1 cup Sugar

1 cup Water

20ml Honey

Half lime

45ml Old Monk Rum

Pinch of Cinnamon powder

For Gulab Jamun:

Gulab Jamuns pre-mix pack

Milk

Oil/Ghee

How To Make Old Monk Rum Infused Gulab Jamun:

Preparing Syrup:

  • Add one cup of water and one cup of sugar to a pan on heat.
  • As the sugar and water come to a boil, add the half lime.
  • Add 20 ml of honey to the boiling mixture, followed by 45 ml of Old Monk Rum.
  • To ensure proper boiling of the syrup with Old Monk, tilt the pan over on the high-heat flame.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon powder to the syrup.

Making Gulab Jamun:

  • Add milk to the Gulab Jamun pre-mix on a plate and knead a soft dough.
  • Make small balls from the dough.
  • Deep fry the balls in ghee or oil.
  • After the Gulab Jamuns are fried, soak them in the syrup for 5 minutes and take it out.

Now, for the infusion part, you can take a syringe and fill it with Old Monk. After filling the syringe, just infuse the rum in the Gulab Jamun.
