Guthli Returns: Mango Seed Collection Initiative Collects 25k Seeds In Navi Mumbai In 2 Days; Plans To Grow Mango Trees With Them

Guthli Returns

The mango season is here and we bet you’re gorging on the ‘king of fruits’ to make the most of it! But what do you do to its seed, after you’re done devouring this sweet fruit? If you’re throwing it in the bin, then we need you to stop right away! Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and RedFM have come together to launch a ‘Guthli Returns’ initiative where they collect mango seeds from your home. They then return these guthlis to farmers or plant nurseries where they again use them to plant more mango trees! People have welcomed this initiative with open hands and NMMC has been able to collect more than 25,000 mango seeds in just two days!

Aam Khao & Let Them Count The Guthlis

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and RedFM have come together for a very cool initiative, ‘Guthli Returns.’ It is a mango seeds collection drive where people are asked to return mango seeds to the collection vans. These collected mango guthli are then either given directly to the farmers and plant nurseries, or they plant it themselves, turn it into plant saplings, and then give it to the farmers for plantation.

They are also joined by popular environmentalist, Subhajit Mukherjee, in this initiative who is guiding them with his experience. It is a sustainable initiative to increase green space and minimise waste generation. In just two days, NMMC has been able to collect 25,000 mango seeds as part of the Guthli Returns initiative!

How You Can Participate In Guthli Returns Initiative

RedFM is running this initiative in different parts of West India and if you want to contribute your guthlis too, then here’s what you need to do.

  1. To participate in Guthli Returns, you will have to properly wash your mango seeds after enjoying the fruit. Then, dry the seeds in direct sunlight for three days.
  2. Now, pack these seeds in an eco-friendly package like an old newspaper or cardboard box.
  3. From there, you can either send them to your nearest RedFM’s radio station or call NMMC if you’re in Navi Mumbai and they’ll take care of it from there.

To send your guthlis, you can WhatsApp your NAME, write GUTHLI RETURNS and send it to your nearest city. The details will be shared with you on WhatsApp. These are the numbers for the following cities.

This is a sustainable and amazing way to help the environment and farmers at the same time! Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments section.
