In a shocking turn of events, a Hainan Airlines flight caught fire while travelling to Shenzhen in China. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner met with this unfortunate accident in mid-air with passengers on board. Soon, the pilots had to divert the scheduled route after the aircraft’s engine caught fire all of a sudden. It made an emergency landing at Fiumicino Airport with flyers and cabin crew members.
Hainan Airlines Flight Caught Fire On Sunday
The alarming news of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner facing such a critical danger mid-air came as a major shock to the aviation industry. According to a report by The Times of India, the Italian Coast Guard suspected a bird strike as the reason behind the engine incident. The flight departed from Italy carrying 249 passengers and 16 cabin crew members. Though the departure was fine, it caught fire after taking off for Shenzhen.
Without wasting any time, the onboard cabin crew took the necessary steps to save everyone on the plane and land somewhere safely. They dumped fuel over the sea before landing in Rome. This action was taken to decrease the plane’s weight ahead of landing at the airport. Soon, the flight made an emergency landing at Fiumicino Airport.
Clips of the incident are making rounds on social media platforms. The videos show sights of fire being visible even from the ground. We can only imagine how traumatising and scary the incident must have been for all the onboard passengers and crew.
No One Suffered Any Injuries
Passengers and crew on the flight did not sustain any injuries. It was a well-handled landing. Though the aircraft reached Fiumicino Airport suddenly, it did not cause any major disruption or change the schedule and timing of other flights waiting to take off or land.
Unfortunately, similar incidents occurred recently in different parts of the world. Different Boeing flights made the headlines for frightening happenings. Just a few days back, a flight engine caught fire and onboard passengers had to be evacuated at the earliest.
