The HAPPY program was started by the Haryana government to help low-income families by facilitating access to public transportation. Beneficiaries of this program get 1,000 kilometres of free travel annually in Haryana Roadways buses, which drastically lowers the cost of travel for employment, school, and medical treatment. Over 27.2 lakh beneficiaries have already been registered under this initiative, and 17.33 lakh smart cards have been distributed, demonstrating its enormous influence on the people of Haryana. 

Who Can Get The Happy Card?

Families who fit the following requirements are eligible to receive the Haryana Happy Card. The criteria is:

  1. Must be living in Haryana permanently.
  2. The family should be making less than ₹1 lakh a year.
  3. For verification, a Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) (family ID) is required.
  4. Each qualifying family member can only have one card.

The initiative offers several benefits, including significant savings on travel costs for low-income families, enabling them to reduce transportation expenses. It encourages education by allowing students from weaker sections to commute to schools and colleges for free. Additionally, it supports employment by helping daily wage workers and job seekers access workplaces without financial strain.
