Rainfall, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies have been a constant in Delhi-NCR over the last few days. The Capital and its neighbouring cities woke up to light rain showers on Tuesday, as the IMD predicted more downpours with the possibility of thunderstorms throughout the day. The rainfall has affected traffic movement in Delhi-NCR, and several airlines have issued travel advisories for flyers as well.
Heavy Rainfall Lashes Delhi-NCR
According to Hindustan Times, the continuous rainfall in Delhi-NCR has caused traffic congestion in several areas during peak office hours. People took to social media platforms like X to share how waterlogging affected traffic movement across the Capital and nearby areas. Gurugram and South Delhi were the worst-affected areas.
As per IMD’s latest weather update, more rain spells are expected across Delhi-NCR this week. Light to moderate rain showers were reported in several areas on Monday night and early Tuesday morning. For Tuesday, the weather department forecasted more showers with possibilities of thunderstorms.
Airlines Issue Travel Advisories
The downpour has affected traffic movement in areas like Aerocity, Mahipalpur, and the Delhi-Gurugram Highway as well. Waterlogging in these areas caused traffic snarls and prompted Delhi Airport and major airlines like Air India and IndiGo to issue travel advisories for flyers.
They requested passengers to consider alternative modes of transportation, like the Delhi Metro, to avoid any inconvenience and delays due to traffic congestion. The airport authorities also recommended that flyers check their flight statuses with the airlines before planning their travel.
Airlines like IndiGo and Air India also requested flyers from Delhi-NCR to consider the continuous rainfall and leave for the airport earlier than usual. They added that “some roads towards the airport are experiencing water build-up and traffic delays.”
