Monsoon arrived early in India this year, with record rainfall reported across various Indian cities. According to IMD’s latest prediction, Maharashtra will witness ‘above normal’ rainfall in July. The forecast indicates cities across the state will see rainfall exceeding 106% of the long-period average (LPA). Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh has been reeling under heavy rainfall over the past few days, and the forecast suggests more isolated rain spells are likely. The weather department has also issued warnings of heavy rainfall in various Indian cities.
106% Above-Normal Rain In July Across Maharashtra
According to Moneycontrol, in IMD’s Monthly Monsoon Outlook, they have forecasted that Maharashtra is set to receive 106% above the Long Period Average (LPA) rainfall in July this year. The weather department also issued a yellow alert from July 5 to 7 for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Meanwhile, Raigad and Ratnagiri are under orange alert from July 3 to 7. The Konkan region is also expected to receive heavy rainfall this month.
On Friday, the weather agency issued a very heavy rainfall alert for the northeastern states in the next 7 days. They also forecasted heavy rainfall in other states and issued an orange alert for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura.
For Delhi-NCR, a yellow alert has been issued for Saturday, with partly cloudy skies and very light to light rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning. For North India, IMD forecasted isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Punjab till July 9.

Incessant Rain Cause Widespread Damage In Himachal Pradesh
Incessant rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has brought the state to a standstill. According to Hindustan Times, the heavy rainfall over the last few days has claimed over 37 lives and caused widespread destruction across. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has confirmed that more than ₹400 crore worth of property has been damaged already. Furthermore, the death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue.
