Heavy Rains Lash Bengaluru, Roads Flooded; Police Issues Traffic Advisory

On Monday, Bengaluru witnessed intense rain, which caused widespread flooding and traffic problems around the city. Numerous locations, including Shantinagar, Town Hall, Mysore Bank, and Malleswaram, experienced intense rainfall, which caused some underpasses to become knee-deep in water. Bengaluru police also issued a traffic advisory to help commuters. 

Heavy Rains Lash Bengaluru

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s control center got multiple complaints regarding flooded roadways, but as of 11:15 p.m., no significant damage was reported as a result of the rain, according to The Hindu.

In addition to creating traffic at the Benniganahalli metro station, the heavy rain also caused flooding, according to several passengers, who blame the area’s ongoing metro construction. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center reports that substantial rainfall was recorded in a number of Bengaluru zones. 

For instance, by 11:30 pm Jakkur in the Yelahanka Zone had received 100 mm of rain, Hampinagar in the South Zone had received 73.50 mm, and Nagapura in the West Zone had received 72 mm.

Karnataka Deputy CM Visits War Room

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar paid an unexpected visit to the war room of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) head office at Hudson Circle around midnight in response to these difficult circumstances. In light of the intense rainfall, he evaluated the city’s disaster and relief operations.

Social media, too, was flooded with pictures and images by commuters showing the conditions during rains. Some were also posting about their current situation, as they were stuck in traffic for hours.  (As per Financial Express)

In a video posted to social media, the Bengaluru Traffic Police are seen driving carefully through flooded streets. The police advise commuters to look for other routes, especially at Hebbal Circle, which leads to the BEL Kengeri bus stop. 

Even though there was a little break in the rain throughout the evening, it continued into the night, creating more issues, particularly at the underpasses at Srirampur and Lingarajapuram.

Cricket Fans Are Worried 

A day prior, Bengaluru police released a traffic advisory due to the ongoing rains.

Cricket fans are getting nervous about the ICC World Cup match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, which is set to take place on November 9 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, because of the ongoing downpour and flooding. For New Zealand to remain in the running for the semi-finals, they need to win this match.

Up until November 8, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a typically cloudy sky with sporadic showers or thunderstorms.
