Heavy Rains To Continue In Maharashtra As Raigad, Pune On Red Alert; Mumbai, Thane Brace For Floods

Maharashtra is bracing for a period of heavy rains, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Raigad and Pune. An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik. This intense weather is expected to last until September 26, bringing challenges to daily life.

Heavy Rains To Continue In Maharashtra

Mumbai, the state’s capital, is preparing for more downpours. The IMD has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rain in some areas of the city. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely to accompany the rain, creating hazardous conditions. This is the latest in a series of continuous rains that have already caused waterlogging and disrupted transport in the city.

Thane, which neighbours Mumbai, is also under an orange alert. The forecast predicts heavy rainfall and strong winds. These conditions could make things worse, with a higher risk of flash floods and landslides in low-lying areas. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

Raigad faces the most severe risk. The IMD has issued a red alert for this coastal district. Extremely heavy rainfall is predicted, which could lead to flooding and landslides. The district is known for its steep terrain, making it particularly vulnerable. Residents have been urged to stay alert and avoid venturing out. Emergency services are on standby in case of disasters. Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts are also at risk, with an orange alert in place.

Red Alert In Raigad And Pune

Pune, often seen as a city with moderate weather, is now under a red alert. The forecast for heavy rain could lead to rising water levels in rivers and dams. Pune’s hilly terrain, especially in the ghats surrounding the city, is prone to landslides. Authorities have advised people to be cautious in these areas. The rain is expected to continue for the next two to three days, with warnings of landslides and road blockages in areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Central parts of the state are likely to be hit the hardest, with extremely heavy rains predicted. Local authorities are preparing for possible disruptions, particularly in waterlogged areas.

The regions of Marathwada and Vidarbha will also experience varying levels of rain. Marathwada is expected to have intermittent heavy showers, while Vidarbha could see very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. The active monsoon is still causing problems in Maharashtra, even as it begins to withdraw from Gujarat and Rajasthan.
