Travelling on Hessa Street is going to be quite easy for people, as a new development project is going to increase the capacity of this popular road. Yes, it includes everything from increasing the number of lanes on the street to adding a bicycle track, the project is expected to cost about AED689 million.
All About The Hessa Street Project
Recently, it was announced on the official account of the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority on X (formerly known as Twitter) that they have awarded the Hessa Street improvement project contract. Yes, with the total expected cost to be AED689 million, the project aims to revamp the 4.5 km stretch, which extends between the Sheikh Zayed Road intersection and Al Khail Road intersection. Talking about the project, it includes the development of four crucial intersections falling along the street. These include – Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Street. As, this also includes increasing the number of lanes on this street from the existing two lanes to four lanes in each direction.

A Cycle Path To Be Added
With a hundred per cent increase in the street capacity, it will be able to accommodate up to 8,000 vehicles per hour per direction once the project is complete. Besides the increase in the capacity of Hessa Street, the project will also implement a 13.5 km cycle path. Yes, the thread posted on X included details about offering a pathway for those who prefer this alternative mode of transport. It should be mentioned that this project will serve several residential and development areas! So, those in Al Sufouh Ii, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle will benefit from the project.
Four Important Intersections To Be Added
At this point, it’s worth mentioning that this project has four important intersections. The first one is between Hessa Street with Sheikh Zayed Road, which is going to include the construction of a two-lane bridge ramp crossing over the Dubai Metro Red Line. The second will be the development of Hessa Street intersection with Al Khail First Street, which will be done by increasing the lanes on the existing bridge to four in each direction and implementing surface level traffic improvement. The next will be intersection of Hessa Street with Al Asayel Street, which will be done by increasing the lanes on the current bridge to four in each direction along the Hessa Street. Finally, the last one will be an intersection point with Al Khail Street, which will be done by creating a direct bridge link that will serve traffic from street share to Al Khail Road.
So, once the project is over, it is bound to travelling on these roads a lot easier.
