Gutkha & Liquor Ads Removed From State Buses In Himachal Pradesh
During the recent board of directors meeting of the HRTC, the authorities have decided to ban gutkha and liquor advertisements from the state buses. They have also decided to remove all such existing ads. Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Mukesh Agnihotri made this announcement on Tuesday in a press conference.
According to NDTV, this decision is part of the “government’s larger effort to curb drug addiction and promote a healthier society.” They aim to prioritise public welfare and address the growing issue of drug addiction, especially among the youth.
As per reports, the Himachal Pradesh government has already banned all imports, manufacturing, transportation, stocking, and sales of chewable tobacco and similar products in the state. This ban has been in effect for a few years now. This new initiative is to make people realise how tobacco can severely impact their health.
1000 Old Buses To Be Replaced In The State
Besides addressing public welfare, Mukesh Agnihotri also shared HRTC’s plans to modernise its fleet. According to NDTV, the authorities plan to replace around 1,000 old buses in the state. They now plan to add 327 electric buses, 250 small buses, and 100 mini-tempo buses to improve the state’s public transport. Reportedly, tenders for the same will start floating soon. This new expansion plan is in line with Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to reduce emissions and expand the electric bus fleet of the state.
