Himachal Pradesh: Ropeways To Be Installed In Malana Village After Road Link Disruption Is Causing Food & Essential Supplies Shortage

To provide some relief to the residents of remote Malana village in Kullu, the state government has decided to install ropeways to facilitate transportation in the area. After the devastating cloudburst on July 31, a crucial road linking the village was extensively damaged. The disruption caused shortages of food and essential supplies in the area. For some temporary relief, the authorities decided to install the ropeways.

After the cloudburst in Kullu on July 31, residents of Malana village have witnessed a transportation crisis in the area. The cloudburst caused significant road infrastructure damage across the region, especially to a crucial road linking Malana. This disruption caused an acute shortage of food and essential supplies in the village. Now, seeing the hardships of the people in the area, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to install ropeways in Malana.

They will install two additional ropeways to provide temporary transportation facilities. This decision was made after the residents of the village complained about the food and essential commodity prices skyrocketing due to higher costs of transportation. As per The Tribune, the disrupted supply chain caused the prices to shoot up. The situation was especially bad for expectant mothers and medical patients.

As per Sunder Singh Thakur, chief parliamentary secretary & Kullu Sadar MLA, the ropeways in Malana will be operational within the next 20 days. They will help alleviate some immediate challenges faced by the residents. It will also enable more efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods and medical supplies.

Cloudburst Cause Extensive Damage To The Roads, Hamper Food Supply

The cloudburst on July 31 in Kullu and the flood-like situation afterwards caused extensive road damage in various parts of the district. The remote village of Malana was one of the worst affected. Because of the road damage, there was initially a shortage of food and essential goods in the area. Now, due to difficulties in the supply chain, the prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed. Seeing this, the state government decided to install a ropeway in Malana. They also asked the local authorities to rebuild the damaged infrastructure as soon as possible.

According to The Tribune’s report, the district administration of Kullu has asked the authorities of the Malana Power Project to speed up the construction efforts towards Malana village. They wish to construct a permanent road connection as soon as possible for the long-term recovery of the area.
