Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas lies a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty. This enchanting realm, Sagarmatha National Park is located in the northeastern part of Nepal. Sagarmatha National Park boasts a diverse topography ranging from lush forests to rugged alpine terrain. The park is characterized by its towering peaks, deep valleys, glaciers, and pristine rivers. It encompasses the famed Khumbu region, which is inhabited by the Sherpa community. They are renowned for their mountaineering prowess and rich cultural heritage. They have a deep spiritual connection with the mountains Namche Bazar, Kunde, Khumjung, Thyangboche, and Pangboche are some of these villages.
Despite the harsh climate and high altitude, Sagarmatha National Park harbours a surprising diversity of plant life. The lower elevations are adorned with rhododendron and pine forests, while alpine meadows and tundra dominate the higher altitudes. For those who enjoy birdwatching, there are up to 118 different species to be seen in addition to the area’s natural beauty. These include the Himalayan griffon, the red-billed chough, the yellow-billed chough, the snow cock, and more. The Himalayan tahr, goral, musk deer, pika (mouse hare), weasel, jackal, black bear, wolf, lynx, and snow leopard are just a few of the region’s many species. However, it is the elusive snow leopard that reigns as the park’s apex predator.
How To Visit?
The park’s altitude ranges from 2,845 meters to the summit of Mount Everest at 8,848 meters. The seasons are October-November and March-May; December-February is marked by snow with a daily temperature of 5°C. Sagarmatha National Park is located approximately 135 kilometres from Kathmandu, Nepal. There are several routes to get to the park, the most popular being to travel to Lukla and climb for two days. Additionally, a direct helicopter ride to Namche Bazar, Kala Patthar, Everest Base Camp, and other park sites is accessible.
Nepali nationals pay an entry fee of NPR 25 per person. SAARC nationals must pay NPR 1,500 per person for each admission. Foreigners must pay NPR 3,000 per person for each admission.
