Religious tourism has witnessed a significant boost in recent years. Millions of people around the world embark on journeys to sacred sites and destinations of spiritual significance. Increased accessibility and globalisation are the factors.

Advances in transportation infrastructure have made it easier for individuals to undertake journeys to distant religious sites. This has opened up opportunities for people to explore their faith and spirituality beyond their immediate communities.

In addition, the factor of riverine tourism offers opportunities to explore historical and cultural sites. Numerous rivers flow through regions that are steeped in history and heritage. Ancient temples, indigenous villages, and archaeological sites often dot the riverbanks. It provides visitors with a chance to delve into the local culture and learn about the historical significance of the area.
