Ferry Service Aims To Link 7 Religious Sites In Guwahati
According to Hindustan Times, an MoU was signed in Guwahati on Friday to connect seven religious sites around the city through waterways. The project would provide a ‘hop on hop off’ boat service. This will connect the seven historic and holy sites in and around Guwahati. These are Kamakhya, Pandunath, Aswaklanta, Doul Govinda, Umananda, Chakreshwar, and Auniati Satra.
Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Sagarmala Development Corporation Limited (SDCL), Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), and the Department of inland waterways transport (DIWT), Government of Assam signed the agreement for the development of a riverine-based religious tourism circuit.
It is anticipated that the ferry service, which will begin at Hanuman Ghat in the Uzan Bazar neighbourhood, will cut the total travel time for one round to less than two hours. Religious tourism will also get a boost as tourists will enjoy the rich spiritual heritage of Guwahati via this wonderful riverine circuit. The project is stated to be completed within a year. A special purpose vehicle will carry out the ₹45 crore project.
