As the world is slowly opening up leaving the Covid restrictions behind, people have planned their summer vacations after 2 years. Infact people have already booked hotels, flights, etc. for their vacations. Resorts and Hotels in India are experiencing an upward trend in advance bookings. 60 per cent of rooms in hotels at places with popular tourist attraction spots are completely booked by far. The rising demand has led to a hike in hotel prices too.
Surpassing Pre-Pandemic Levels
Experiencing strong revival, Managing Director & CEO of Indian Hotels Puneet Chhatwal, IHCL said that their 2022 March, April and May business is undoubtedly higher than that in the same months of 2019. The hotels and resorts in Delhi, Mumbai, Panaji, Kochi, Srinagar, Shimla, Nainital, and Dehradun which are popular tourist destinations have seen booking rates surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
OTAs Too Witness A Rise
OTAs or Online Travel Agencies too have witnessed a sudden rise in the bookings and searches for hotels in India. A 100 per cent rise has been seen in hotel bookings in places like Goa, Kerala, Puducherry, Rishikesh, Shimla, Nainital, and Dehradun and search queries have increased by 25 per cent is what Yatra.com’s data showed. MakeMyTrip’s spokesperson revealed that leisure travel is on the lead on the recovery road and the highest number of searches or bookings are taking place for Goa, Srinagar, Rishikesh, and Mussoorie.
Rising Demands, Rising Prices
Hotel chains across India with places that are home to popular tourist destinations have increased their prices. Metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are seeing a hike in average rooms by 40 per cent, OTA’s data. Popular destinations like Shimla, Goa, and Nainital are facing a hike of 100 per cent. The rates of hotels in 2022 in leisure locations are 2 or 3 times the rates in 2019.
