A Hyderabad-bound IndiGo flight from Chennai had to make an emergency return after facing unexpected engine trouble mid-air. The crew’s quick action, along with the swift response from Chennai Air Traffic Control (ATC), ensured the aircraft landed safely back at Chennai International Airport on Sunday. Read on to know more about this in detail.
Mid-Air Engine Trouble On An IndiGo Flight
As reported by Travel and Tour World, the IndiGo flight was on the way from Chennai to Hyderabad when it faced a mid-air scare. The aircraft experienced a sudden engine malfunction while flying over Andhra Pradesh. Thanks to the prompt action by the crew and the Chennai ATC, the plane made a safe emergency landing back at the Chennai Airport. Their swift response helped avoid a major aviation disaster.
Reportedly, this IndiGo flight was scheduled to take off from Chennai Airport at 3:40 pm and arrive in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport by 5 pm. However, while flying above Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, the crew detected the engine issue. Following standard safety protocols, the pilot contacted ATC in Chennai and requested an emergency return. ATC responded quickly and granted clearance. The IndiGo aircraft safely landed back at Chennai Airport at around 4:30 pm. Emergency teams and ground staff were also present at the scene for assistance.

IndiGo Confirms Safe Landing
IndiGo later confirmed that all passengers and crew were safe and deboarding also went smoothly, as per Travel and Tour World. The airline’s technical team began their inspection of the aircraft shortly after it landed. Ground staff reassured passengers and arranged an alternate flight to Hyderabad as well.
This recent incident shows how unpredictable air travel has become in recent times. Though no injuries were reported, this incident has raised questions about airline operations and safety protocols across India. It should also be noted that last week, IndiGo faced another issue when a flight from Indore to Bhubaneswar, carrying 140 passengers, was delayed due to a minor technical snag. However, the aircraft was cleared for take-off after safety checks.
This incident must have been scary for those on board. But the prompt action by both the IndiGo flight crew and Chennai’s ATC made sure the aircraft landed back safely.
