In the latest episode of Sandese Aate Hain, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani visited Major General G.D. Bakshi’s home. One of India’s most decorated war veterans, Major General Bakshi is loved by many for his no-nonsense approach to national security and his love and passion for his country and countrymen. Kamiya spoke to him about life in the military, ceasefire, and more.
Major General Bakshi Explains How Ceasefire Happens
He might have retired but Major General G.D. Bakshi says he will be a soldier till his last breath! Having braved some of the most difficult border situations during his service, Major General Bakshi knows how armed forces work in difficult situations. So, we couldn’t help but ask him how negotiations and ceasefires happen during war-like situations.
He explained that normally, a ceasefire happens when powerful countries like the USA mediate between the conflicting nations. He shared that during the Kargil war, the then-President of the US, Bill Clinton mediated the ceasefire talks between India and Pakistan.
However, he feels things have changed now. India does not sit back and wait for foreign help. Major General Bakshi says that India is able to attack those who challenge it in full capacity, thanks to its Army, Navy, And Air Force. He explained that India is much stronger than Pakistan when it comes to its forces. Right from the number of soldiers to the Air Force, India’s power right now is commendable and unmatchable.

Social Media, Fake News During Conflict
One of the biggest differences between past conflicts and recent ones is the availability of information, thanks to social media and news channels. Kamiya asked Major General Bakshi how one can navigate this internal war of fake news and exaggeration of facts. He said, “In times of war, hume apne aapse maasle chordne padte hai. We have to come together and stand united as Indians. You have to be careful about what you say and who you say that to.”
