Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi Route Emerges As The Busiest Aerial Route In India
The Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi route is the busiest aerial route in India! According to a report by Mint, this route sees an average of 55 daily flights on each side! Overall, six airlines operate 384 flights per week, on each side to meet up with the high demand on this route. Furthermore, it is not only the busiest route by frequencies of flight but also in terms of seats deployed. As per Mint, approximately 10,860 seats are assigned daily between the two cities, each way.
What’s also interesting is the massive difference between the first and second busiest routes in Indian skies! Delhi-Bengaluru, reportedly, is the second busiest aerial route in India. As per Mint, the Delhi-Mumbai route has 46% more flight frequencies than the Delhi-Bengaluru one! Also, in terms of seats deployed, there is a 41% difference between the two routes.
As per Cirium’s report, across 1,126 sectors in the country, 22,854 weekly departures for next month are scheduled on the Delhi-Mumbai route!

Busiest Time, Largest Carrier & All You Need To Know About This Route
Six airlines operate around 384 flights per week, on each side, on the Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi route. Of them, IndiGo is the market leader on the route with 135 weekly flights between the two cities. As per Mint’s report, they make for a massive 35% frequency share of flights on the route. Following closely behind is Vistara, which makes for 30% of flight frequency share on this route with 117 weekly flights. Air India comes in third place with 83 weekly flights and 21.6% flight frequency share.
From Mumbai to Delhi, the busiest time for flights is between 7 AM and 7:59 AM. There are usually five departures scheduled on this route during this period. In the evening, this route is the busiest between 7 PM and 7:59 PM with five departures. For flights from Delhi, there are five departures each between 7 PM and 8 PM and 8 PM and 9 PM.
Recently, OAG’s Megahubs 2024 list ranked the Delhi and Mumbai airports as two of the best-connected airports in India! These two even made it to the top 50 list of most internationally connected airports in the world.
