In general, a samosa costs around ₹10 per piece in most places. This price seems fairly standard, regardless of the city or state. However, there are notable exceptions, depending on the location and type of outlet.
Street vendors and small eateries often sell samosas for about ₹5 to ₹10. For instance, at a local tapri (tea stall), you might find samosas priced at ₹7. At a small dhaba or budget hotel, the price is usually ₹10. In contrast, cafes or restaurants might charge ₹15 or more for a samosa. At higher-end places or theatres, the price can climb to ₹30.
The price can also vary based on the cooking method and ingredients. For example, samosas fried in cheaper oils like dalda or palm oil might cost around ₹5 to ₹10. Those fried in soybean oil could be priced at ₹20.

Interestingly, users noticed that some places charge significantly more. One user pointed out, “Depends on location to location.” At a high-end cafe or hotel, a samosa might cost ₹25 to ₹50. In certain areas of South Delhi, it could be as high as ₹120 to ₹180 for a particularly good one. In Patna, a samosa at a local thela (street cart) might cost ₹5, while a meal combo including samosas on an airline could be priced at ₹100 for two.

One user commented, “Rs 20 to 50 per piece usually depending on shop / restaurant in Bangalore. Samosa chana chat etc can even cost more upto Rs 60 to 100.” In Kolkata, the price for a single samosa is about ₹25.
Why is there such a variation? It often comes down to factors like location, vendor type, and the quality of ingredients. Local samosas might taste better due to fresher ingredients or unique recipes. In contrast, mall samosas could be mass-produced, leading to a less distinctive flavour.
In summary, while the average price for a samosa hovers around ₹10 to ₹20, it can vary widely based on where you buy it. Whether from a street vendor or a high-end restaurant, the price reflects not just the location but also the quality and preparation method.
