“How To Co-Operate? Bring Swimsuits?” Citizens Left Frustrated After Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging In Bengaluru City

Bengaluru faced chaos this morning as heavy rains and waterlogging wreaked havoc across the city. Roads transformed into rivers, making travel a nightmare for residents. The downpour, which began in the early hours, left the IT hub waterlogged and brought traffic to a standstill.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police quickly issued urgent advisories, warning commuters of the difficult conditions ahead. Using the social platform X, they posted several updates, including videos of submerged streets. One such video, lasting just 16 seconds, showed vehicles battling through flooded roads on the Hebbal Flyover. The waterlogged ramps towards the city and airport created waves as cars and trucks pushed through, further highlighting the severity of the situation.

The traffic police issued a “Traffic Advisory” on X, stating, “Slow-moving traffic due to Water logging at Hebbal Flyover Upper ramp towards City And Hebbal Flyover Down ramp towards Airport, Kindly cooperate.” This message underscored the urgency of the situation, urging residents to be patient and avoid unnecessary travel.

Citizens Share Experiences

Social media quickly became a platform for citizens to share their experiences and frustrations. Photos and videos flooded the internet, showing vehicles struggling through knee-deep water. One user captured a long line of cars stuck in traffic, dubbing the day “Manic Monday #Bommanahalli Bengaluru City Traffic.” Another video showed traffic police working hard to clear the roads and manage the waterlogging.

The heavy rains didn’t just affect traffic; they also uprooted several trees across the city. The traffic police shared images of the damage, warning residents to stay cautious. However, the warnings did little to ease the frustration of many, who took to social media to voice their concerns about the city’s infrastructure.

Criticism was widespread. One user sarcastically commented on how their tax money seemed to be wasted, saying, “This is where our tax money goes to India’s IT HUB. Smooth road with a fine layer of water for a comforting journey. Space technology is at its best in Bengaluru this morning. #BengaluruMonsoon #BengaluruRains.” Another expressed frustration over paying taxes only to face vehicle damage due to the poor road conditions, asking, “Haha, wonderful! Pay property tax, and road tax, and then get your car damaged due to driving through knee-deep waters.”
