Thanks to Indian Railways’s new rules, getting guaranteed lower berth seats is no longer a difficult task. Among special facilities for senior citizens, the specific method to book lower seats for them is an important option.

It often happens that elderly passengers do not get lower berths on trains, even on a priority basis. Though passengers want to get these seats for easier access, many end up not getting their desired choice of seats. Indian Railways explained this much-talked-about issue and elaborated the reason behind this major inconvenience.

Railways stated that passengers booking tickets under the general quota can get lower berth seats only if there are seats available in the first place. According to a report by Informalnewz, even senior citizens will not get these seats if there are no seats available. While booking tickets, passengers must check the Reservation Choice Book option and book under it. If there is an allotment of lower berth, interested travellers will get seats.
