How Will The Advanced Environmental Control Systems At RRTS Underground Stations Help Passengers Breathe Better?

RRTS underground

We come bearing some good news for RRTS travellers! The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has decided to install advanced environmental control systems (ECSs) on all underground stations of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). These air control systems will ensure fresh air in the underground stations and will help passengers breathe better! Read on to know more about them.

RRTS Underground Stations To Have Advanced Environmental Control Systems

NCRTC has revealed plans to add advanced environmental control systems in all underground stations of RRTS. This move will ensure continuous fresh air circulation in the underground stations for a comfortable, safe, and pleasant travel experience. As per The Times of India report, this system will help meet air quality standards at the stations and help passengers breathe better.

As per the official statement released by NCRTC, these ECSs will be installed at all four underground stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor of RRTS. These stations are Anand Vihar, Meerut Central, Bhaisali, and Begumpul. It is to be noted that these stations are being constructed below the ground level at depths ranging from 8 to 23 metres.

While talking to The Times of India, an NCRTC official said that these ECS systems will have energy-efficient Air Handling Units that are designed to meet high air quality standards. It will also have electronically commutated (EC) motors that will minimise energy loss, ensure reliable performance, and improve overall energy efficiency.

How These Air Control Systems Will Help Passengers?

The underground railway stations have limited airflow as compared to elevated ones. This means they need better ventilation systems that can ensure good air quality for passenger comfort. And these ECSs that are going to be added to RRTS stations will help with that. As per reports, the systems will maintain optimal temperature and fresh air quality at the stations. For this, they will continuously regulate the cooling and ventilation requirements of the stations. Also, they will add ultraviolet-C (UVC) lights to combat airborne infections at RRTS underground stations.

Furthermore, to ensure optimal air quality, CO2 sensors will be installed at the stations to monitor CO2 levels. This data will be analysed to regulate fresh air ventilation. They will also add more new-age tools to prevent the formation of hot or cold spots within the stations and optimise station layout and infrastructure design for passenger comfort.

It surely looks like passenger comfort is of utmost importance for NCRTC! What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
