Imagine travelling between Sealdah and Howrah during the peak hours. From buses to autos to trains, the journey between these two bustling places takes a lot of time during rush times. Thankfully, commuting between these places is all set to get seamless and faster than ever. Kolkata Metro is connecting Howrah and Sealdah metro stations and here’s everything you need to know about this connection.
Get Ready To Travel Between Sealdah & Howrah Faster With Kolkata Metro
College students, officegoers, and many commuters travel between Sealdah and Howrah regularly. With the Kolkata metro creating an effective link between these two busy hubs via the Esplanade corridor, people can soon complete their journeys in the least time possible. Kolkata Metro is improving connections between Howrah and Sealdah metro stations on the Green Line.
This crucial step will be effective in cutting down the overall travel time to just 11 minutes. Soon, passengers can hop on the metro, commute comfortably on air-conditioned coaches, and reach their destinations as soon as possible. The new metro connectivity will play a significant role in people saving more than an hour while commuting between Sealdah and Howrah during peak hours. Traffic congestion on roads often delays the journeys.
A metro official stated that this link brings mental relief to locals and traders of Bowbazar. Some challenges were faced due to the tunnelling work in Bowbazar during construction and the metro officials resolved the issues, according to a report by India Today. With this, they bridged the connection between Sealdah and Esplanade metro stations.
A Communications Based Train Control signalling system has been included in this metro corridor, marking its first time in the Kolkata Metro. This prioritises automated metro operations and improved safety protocols.
Will Operations Be Suspended?
For this significant development, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) requested a temporary suspension of metro operations on the Green Line. Starting February 8, they asked to suspend trains until March 24, 2025.
Officials working on planning the metro connectivity shared their thoughts on this ambitious project and stated that metro operations between Sealdah and Howrah stations would be equivalent to running 72 air-conditioned buses each hour between these two busy locations. It is similar to operating an air-conditioned bus from Sealdah and Howrah every 50 seconds.
Residents of Kolkata and Howrah, are you relieved with this new metro connectivity? What are your thoughts on this?
