Hurricane Milton: After 2,250 Flights Cancelled, Majority Airports Reopen With Limited Operation In Florida; Details Inside

Hurricane Milton devastated the Florida peninsula on Wednesday and Thursday. Soon after it landed in the region, it caused major flooding, deadly tornadoes, and thousands of homes to lose power. The strong storms also severely impacted air travel in the region, causing thousands of flights to be cancelled and several airports in Florida to be closed. Hurricane Milton Cause Travel Disruption & Closure Of Several Airports

Hurricane Milton tore through the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday and Thursday and caused severe damage in several parts of Florida. Warnings for hurricanes, tropical storms, storm surges, and tornados were issued all over the state. The storm has also impacted air travel and caused several airports to shut down operations in Florida. Due to the grave weather conditions, airlines are grounding their flights.

As per The Indian Express report, over 2,250 flights were cancelled by Thursday midday and around 1,970 were cancelled on Wednesday across airports in Florida due to Hurricane Milton. As per the latest update, storm-surge warnings were issued for Florida’s east-central coast and tropical storm warnings were extended to Georgia and South Carolina.

The authorities have advised people to stay inside and seek shelter in place until it’s safe. They have also requested people travelling out of Florida to “not head to the airport unless that airport is open and it’s safe to drive there.” They have also advised people to check the flight status with the airlines before heading out.

Status Of Airports Across Florida

Several airports have completely shut operations while others are receiving domestic arrivals, depending on their location and the impact of the hurricane. Here’s a list of airports in the state –

1. Miami Airport – The airport is open as it is not in the oath of the hurricane. However, there are several delays and cancellations reported.
2. Orlando International Airport – They are now open to receive a few domestic arrivals but no departures or international flights will take place for now.
3. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport – The airport is open for operations with few delays and cancellations.
4. Palm Beach International Airport – The airport has reopened for operations with few delays and cancellations.
5. Tampa International Airport – As per their latest social media update, the airport will resume flight operations at 8 AM (local time) on Friday.
6. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport – According to the last update, the airport is currently closed.
7. Jacksonville International Airport – JAX is open for operations, albeit with a few cancellations and delays.
