The Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, recently shared their findings of raids at restaurants in Hyderabad on X (formerly known as Twitter). At Urban Maya Bazar – Family Bar & Kitchen, inspectors discovered house flies in the kitchen and inadequately fitted back doors, allowing pest entry. Open dustbins and improperly labelled refrigerated food were noted.
According to an article which was recently published by NDTV, the team disposed of suspected synthetic food colourants found on-site. The restaurant failed to display its FSSAI licence and lacked essential documentation, including medical fitness certificates for staff and water analysis reports.
The Tree Stories café faced similar scrutiny. Operating with an expired FSSAI licence, the establishment could not produce medical fitness certificates or pest control records. Inspectors discarded expired baked beans and besan discovered in the kitchen.

Evidence of potential rat infestation was observed in the storeroom. The refrigerator contained uncovered and unlabelled food items. Windows lacked insect-proof screens, and doors were not adequately fitted to prevent pest ingress.
The Avenue Bar & Kitchen also inspected on 10 October, fared somewhat better. However, the team noted that the kitchen’s back door was not properly fitted, posing a risk of pest entry. Some refrigerated food items lacked proper labelling, and water analysis reports for the RO water used in food preparation were unavailable.
These inspections highlight the importance of regular oversight in the food service industry. The findings underscore the need for stringent adherence to food safety regulations, proper documentation, and rigorous hygiene practices to safeguard public health.
