At least 17 people lost their lives and several were severely injured after a major fire that broke out at a jewellery shop in Gulzar House near the Charminar in Hyderabad. The fire, reportedly, broke out in the early hours of Sunday. Around 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. Scroll on to know more about this.
Massive Fire Breaks Out Near Charminar, Hyderabad
According to NDTV, a massive fire broke out in a building near the iconic Charminar at around 6 AM on Sunday morning. The cause of the fire is not confirmed yet, but officials suspect that a short circuit may have been the reason for the fatal fire.
The fire broke out in a jewellery shop in Gulzar House. The area, reportedly, has a row of jewellery shops and is very close to the Charminar. As per the fire department official, they received a call around 6.30 AM. 12 fire engines fought the blaze and helped people out of the building. Those injured were shifted to hospitals for immediate medical assistance.
As per officials, the families affected by the fire lived on top of their shop in the Gulzar House area. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed grief over the incident. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his shock about the fire and asked his officials to step up relief efforts and ensure the best treatment for those injured.

Prime Minister Expresses Condolences & Announces Ex-Gratia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the fire that broke out near Charminar. The PM’s office took to X to announce an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh. The post read, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM”
An inquiry is underway to know more about the fire and ascertain the cause of the incident.
