The one-pot meal of rice and lentils cooked together with spices and vegetables is a warm hug in a bowl. Translating to ‘hot rice lentil dish’ in Kannada, it’s soul food at its best. So, when a woman from Karnataka came across Bisi Bele Bath being misspelt in numerous menus in Hyderabad, she wasn’t taking it lightly.
Bisi Bele Bath Misspelt By Restaurants In Hyderabad, Points Out Woman
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, a woman from Bengaluru who now calls Hyderabad her home had one gripe with the city. The X user, @Dhichkyaaon observed that Hyderabad restaurant menus massacred the name of her favourite dish, Bisi Bele Bath. Sharing evidence for the same, the woman posted screenshots of menus from Cream Kitchen- Veg Bistro, Simply South, Haldiram’s Restaurant, Daspalla Hotel, Udipi’s Ahaara Arogya, amongst others.

‘Bissbila Bath’, ‘Bismilla Bath’, ‘Bisi Belle Bath’, ‘Bissi Belle Baath’, ‘Bisibele Bhath’, were some of the misspelt names of the iconic comfort dish from Karnataka. In one of the online menus, the image next to Bisi Bele Bath was incorrect. Instead of the rice-lentil dish, the representative image was that of Chow Chow Baath, a combination of sweet semolina halwa and upma.

Netizens Observe That A Restaurant Even Misspelt ‘Udupi’
Irked, @Dhichkyaaon wrote in her caption that it breaks her heart to see a new spelling of her favourite dish. She called it ‘Hyderabad’s way of ruining a Bangalorean’s day’. “What’s the difficulty in writing Bisi Bele Bath?” she asks in Kannada. Her post garnered over 70 comments, with a few Netizens being enraged with the food and culture appropriation and others amused with the misspelt names. One pointed out a pricey dish and wondered what secret ingredients went into it. Another person commented that Hyderabad restaurants had no clue what they were doing.
Many were amused by ‘Bismilla Bath’, calling it very ‘Hyderabadi’. Others wondered if the misspelt dish name was the fault of the online food delivery app or the restaurant itself. Not just Bisi Bele Bath, even Udupi, the temple town known for its vegetarian delicacies, has been misspelt to ‘Udipi’ in Hyderabad.
