Hyderabad: Woman Dies, 20 Suffer Food Poisoning After Eating Momos At Street Vendor In Banjara Hills

A woman tragically passed away after eating momos from a street vendor in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills area. That’s not all, around 20 people suffered food poisoning and were hospitalised after consuming momos from the same vendor. The police have arrested two people in this case and have even sent food samples from the vendor for lab analysis.

33-year-old Reshma Begum passed away on Sunday after consuming momos from a street vendor in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills. According to The Economic Times, the deceased and her two daughters, aged 12 and 14, ate momos from a street-side stall in Chintal Basti, Khairatabad, on October 25.

Soon after, the family experienced symptoms of food poisoning. They experienced vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain. Unfortunately, Reshma Begum died on October 27. As per the latest update, her daughters are still under treatment.

Reshma Begum and her daughters aren’t the only victims of these fatal momos. Upon police investigation, it was found that at least 20 other residents from nearby areas were hospitalised with similar symptoms. Reportedly, in the last week, all the victims had consumed the momos prepared by the same vendor. However, they were sold at different places in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills.

Police Investigation Underway; Food Samples Sent To Lab

As per reports, one of the food stalls in the area where these momos were being sold is named ‘Delhi Momos’. According to Hindustan Times, the stall was set up by six men and they have now been taken into police custody for further investigation. According to a notification by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the matter, the street vendor in this case has been operating without a licence. They have now ordered to shut down all of the vendor’s business operations. The authorities have also sent the food samples to the state food laboratory for analysis.
