Vlogger Couple Mackenzie and Keenan of UNSTUK with Mac & Keen have been travelling around India for the last couple of months. They were recently in Gujarat when Keenan fell severely ill. Mackenzie, obviously, panicked seeing his state. As an American who has lived in the UK, she said she has seen two different healthcare systems and she was worried about getting timely doctor appointments and the cost of the treatment.

Thankfully, a local friend of the couple stepped up to help and showed her the vast difference between the healthcare system here and that of the UK and the USA. To begin with, she was surprised when her friend booked home blood tests for Keenan at their convenience and time. A sharp contrast from getting appointments from labs that can take anywhere between a few days to weeks in the UK and USA.

What surprised her further was the cost of this service. In her own words, she knew this was “gonna hurt the wallet” but ended up costing only $14 (₹1,100). She was “blown away” by the incredible Indian healthcare system. She also mentioned that they were given the results on the same day and a doctor was overseeing the entire procedure. He then prescribed Keenan medication based on his results. She was simply in awe of the ease of obtaining quality healthcare in India.

One cannot miss out on the comment section of this post! You can find many Indians hyping up the healthcare system in the country and boasting about how they can book medical facilities online and even pay with ease. What was surprising, however, was how many foreigners also agreed with Mackenzie. They talked about the long waiting periods in the UK and USA hospitals and how people often travel to India for their quality and relatively pocket-friendly medical services.
