The food served on Indian trains has long sustained a dicey image when it comes to the quality of food. A number of passengers over the years have shared photos of food with dead insects, lizards and even rats. According to the post made by the passenger on X (formerly known as Twitter), the passenger was travelling in a Vande Bharat Express on February 1. The train, numbered 20173, was heading to Jabalpur from Kamlapati.
The food on the train is provided by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC. In addition to sharing his experience on social media with pictures as proof, he also registered a complaint at the Jabalpur Station.

The photos he shared showed that his non-vegetarian thali had a single dead cockroach in the rice. In the caption shared along with the pictures, he wrote that the experience left him traumatised. He even mentioned the details of his journey in the post.

IRCTC Responds To The Passenger’s Post On Social Media
Sir, our sincere apology for the experience you had.The matter is viewed seriously, and the hefty penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. Moreover, monitoring has been strengthened at the source.

The post gained significant traction and many people reacted to it. The X account of the IRCTC also responded to the post. They apologised to the passenger for his experience. They also assured him that the provider was imposed with a heavy fine for this.

The response also stated that they would increase the monitoring of food hygiene on trains. The RailSeva service also acknowledged the post and said that his complaint had been registered. Many people criticised the authorities for their callousness.
