Amena Rakkuson, commonly known as the ‘Mama’ behind the popular Dubai-based Thai restaurant Sticky Rice is no more. The noted chef died of covid-19. She died on Sunday because of the Covid-19 complications. Her family took to social media and announced this devastating news.

Her family posted a message on Instagram, which read,
“It is with great sadness and with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Mama. With her passing, she has left an enormous void in our lives and we are absolutely devastated. But even though she was taken from us so suddenly we want to remember Mama for the amazing woman that she is because she was not only mama to us, she was Mama to everyone.”
Mama Was A Part Of UAE’s Food Scene For More Than 20 years
Sticky Rice restaurant is just two years old and has branches in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village Circle and at Food District, The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah. The restaurant was launched by Rakkuson and her son, Mo Abedin in 2019. In fact, last month, Sticky Rice managed had also stated that they would be temporarily closing due to rising cases of Covid-19 in the UAE.

Amena Rakkuson was an integral part of the UAE’s food scene and was serving Dubai’s Thai community for more than 20 years. The news of her demise made 1000s of people sad. There were more than 800 comments of condolence on Instagram. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. May her soul rest in peace.
